Hurricane Fiona: Emergency official details differences between evacuations, overnight and comfort centres

Erica Fleck, assistant chief of emergency management with Halifax Regional Fire Emergency, detailed on Friday the differences between evacuation, overnight and comfort centres, ahead of hurricane Fiona's arrival. She said evacuation centres have to be requested by the municipality but can be used overnight for people to sleep or evacuate in an emergency. Comfort centres will be open after the storm passes for people to get food, charge their phones and other aspects. Overnight centres will offer food or a place to sleep. She added, there are sites set up for the homeless with services specific to them, but they can go to other centres if needed.
