Winnipeg community advocate reacts to Portage Place re-development

Director of immigration partnership Winnipeg Reuben Garang spoke on Friday about plans to re-develop Portage Place Shopping Centre in downtown Winnipeg. Garang said re-development of space will keep the community's needs in mind as opposed to business objectives, adding that residents consider Portage Place Shopping Centre a community gathering space. Garang's thoughts were reinforced by other advocates of the community who encouraged consideration of affordable housing, re-source based security and Indigenous ownership.
